Nikki & Chad - Haven, Wisconsin
|

I've known the very lovely Nikki for a few years, as she was a pseudo (sorta) co-worker in my previous life. And not only did she pick a helluva good guy in Chad, to spend the rest of her life with, they picked a helluva a location for their engagement session.
Follow my Saturday wedding in Madison, on Sunday I had to drag myself up to the site of the 2010 PGA Championship; Whistling Straits. Woe is me. LOL The weather was spectacular, if not a nip-bit chilly and windy. BUT! WOW! I can't wait for the day I lumber my clubs to the hallowed fairways of this amazing slice of golf heaven designed by Pete Dye. Schaller, are you reading this? Let's do it.
The day was resplendent with amazing light, the Lake Michigan shoreline, seagulls galore, and a spotted baby fawn curled up in the grass below a stone bridge. We finished the session off with a little surprise portrait with Nikki's dog. I can't wait for September to shoot their wedding in Elkhart Lake and Plymouth, Wisconsin.
The staff at Whistling Straits were most accommodating in letting us traverse the mounds and fairways of the front nine on a golf cart. Many many MANY thanks. I'm also counting the days until August when I get to make two more trips this amazing venue to cover two weddings.
Lotsa love to all,
c

Caroline & Andy - Madison, Wisconsin
|

Hair Salon: Cameo Day Spa & Salon
Ceremony: First Congregational Church of Madison
Reception: The Edgewater
Catering Director: Steven E. Keip
Music: Celebrations Entertainment
Limousine Service: Affordable Limousine
It's finally here. My 2009 summer wedding season is officially under way. Last June's southeast Wisconsin monsoon swept through my mind as I drove from Milwaukee to Madison through sheets of rain and low dark clouds. But upon crossing I-90 on my way towards East Washington Ave, the clouds began breaking up and the sun poked through. Rejoice. LOL ...If the fabled tail for rain holds true, then Caroline and Andrew are destined for a rock solid marriage. In the end, you couldn't ask for better weather for a May wedding in Wisconsin.
I've been looking forward to May 23, 2009 since last June. This was going to be the wedding I launched myself into a full time wedding photographer. Well that happened January 30th, with Brynn and Justin. SO!?!.... now I was looking forward to meandering around the Capitol Square during Saturday morning's famed Farmer's Market. It's been 14 years since I've made the time for this event; and it didn't disappoint with it's lush tapestry of produce, herbs, flowers, and other knick-knacks as far as thee eye can see. Thankfully Cameo Day Spa was right across the street from an herb stand I was eyeing up (I need cilantro, rosemary, thyme, basil, italian parsley, and sage) so I didn't have far to go to meet up with the beautiful Caroline.
Andy and Caroline are so easy going and laid back. We broke the "photography ice" last fall during their engagement session, and they seriously made my job easy. Their wedding was no different. A lot of brides tend to wear their nerves on their sleeve, but Caroline was as cool as the other side of the pillow. ...Until she took one last look in the mirror moments before the ceremony, then she took a deep breath. The ceremony was short and sweet, then we hit the University Arboretum and McArdle Labs for a quick, albeit hysterical, portrait session before we met up with the rest of the clan for the celebration.
During the reception, I discovered Caroline and Andy can "shred the floor". They brought in their dance instructor to teach the Rhumba and the Swing - very VERY cool. After the lessons, C&A put on a little latin flavored dance exhibition that cleared floor. BUT! there was one gentleman who took the floor during the Humpty Dance that brought the house down. I give the big guy (below with the tie) the nod. The dude can shake it. :)
A quick Madison tip; The Edgewater has a fantastic pier with a little outdoor bar. It's the perfect location for taking in a Lake Mendota sunset whilst relaxing and sipping cocktails on the lakefront.
I have to give a HUGE shout out to Mia Stevens of Mia S Photo who helped me shoot this beautiful little Madison Wedding. She noticed an amazing sunset, which led to my blog's new header photo. Mwuah! :)
Thank you so much for letting Mia and myself be a part of your very special day.
Much love to all,
c

The Collection Shoot-out
|

I LOVE this time of year. My friends from the Collection and I gather for an annual Milwaukee Wedding Photography shoot-out. It started last year with a single model and a small group of photographers; and this year it was bigger and badder. We had four models, a gaggle of photographers, and one location of an utmost secretive nature. :) I always use these environments to do a little experimenting with both the photography and processing (this time I was playing with toned black and whites). A big thanks to the models and Molly, Mia, Miranda, Amy, Sarah, Dennis, and Carl.
enjoy!

ps, I'll be adding to this post next week. Stay tuned. :)
